Spray foam attic insulation is one of the most popular upgrades for Irish homes. It seals the roof structure from the inside, eliminating cold air infiltration and reducing heat loss through the roof significantly. It is particularly effective in older properties where the existing attic insulation has deteriorated or where the roof structure makes conventional insulation difficult to install.

Closed cell foam is denser, provides a higher level of thermal insulation per centimetre of thickness, and acts as a vapour barrier. It is better suited to applications where moisture resistance is important, such as flat roofs, cold stores, containers, and below-ground structures.

Current SEAI grants relevant to spray foam insulation include attic insulation grants and, where spray foam is used as part of an external wall treatment, external wall insulation grants of up to €8,000.
